What if I want to hire a scooter but do not hold a scooter license on my overseas license?

If you do not have a current motor cycle license you will need to sit a Theory and Practical test at the downtown Police headquarters.

Do I need a Cook Islands Driver’s licence?

Visitors can drive in the Cook Islands on their overseas license for up to six months unless the license expires, is revoked, suspended or disqualified in that time.  A person will only be allowed to drive only the class of motor vehicle they are entitled to drive in their home country.   Visitors whose license is written in a language other than English will need an accurate translation.

How old do I have to be to hire a car or scooter?

The minimum age is 21 years.

What do I need to bring with me when I collect my car?

You will need a copy of your booking confirmation and also your current driver’s licence and a valid credit card.

I am arriving at 2 AM and want to collect my car from the airport, will the Airport Desk be open at that time?

Should our desk not be manned, your vehicle will be in the Arrivals Carpark, cross over the Zebra Pedestrian and turn left, look for car slots 13 to 22 by the hedge-side, your name will be on the window and key under the driver’s mat. There will be a Airport Exit Card in the vehicle OR if not please show the Airport Attendant your welcome sign to exit the airport.

Do you hire Car Seats and Baby Seats?

Yes we do, it is $12 per day per seat.

What Payment methods can I use to confirm my booking online?

We accept Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards

The Cook Islands use New Zealand Dollars and all rates on our website and emails are quoted in New Zealand Dollars. Credit Card Pre-Authorisation – A pre-authorisation of up to $750 NZD will be placed on your credit card at the start of the rental. This amount will be temporarily unavailable. Final charges will be processed at the end of the rental, and any remaining balance will be released. Please allow 7 – 10 business days for your bank to process the release. Rarotonga Rentals accepts no liability for any overdraft fees incurred.

If I book a car on your website, how will I know that you have received my details?

You will receive a confirmation email from our enquiries and reservations department.

What insurance is included?

Comprehensive insurance is included in your quote. This includes damage to the rental car & any damage to a third party. However, this cover has a standard excess of $5000.00 plus Vat of 15% with a pre-authorisation (block/bond) for credit cards of $750.00. See below for excess waiver options to reduce this excess.

Most of the drivers in Rarotonga are uninsured and in the event of an accident it is impossible to recover insurance excesses even if the other party is at fault. We have never managed to make any recovery of excesses on behalf of our clients even though accidents are most often not our client’s fault.

In order to eliminate this concern and provide a stress-free holiday with no unpleasant expensive surprises, we strongly advise taking one of our insurance excess waiver options as detailed below.

1. Reduce your Insurance Excess Waiver to $1500.00 at an additional $14.95 per day with a pre-authorisation (block/bond) of $750 required on your credit card.
2. Reduce your Insurance Excess Waiver to $0.00 at an additional $22.95 per day. (No bond required)

SCOOTERS
1. Compulsory Excess Waiver of $1000.00 at an additional $10.00 per day with a pre-authorisation (block/bond) of $250 required on your credit card.
2. Reduce your Insurance Excess Waiver to $0.00 at an additional $22.95 per day. (No bond required)

Are Additional drivers allowed?

Yes, the first driver is free and each additional driver will cost $5 per day per driver.

What is included in the rate?

Unlimited kilometres, VAT 15%, insurance (excess applies).

Cancellation Policy

We understand that travel plans can change and aim to provide flexibility while ensuring availability for all customers.

Standard Bookings

  • Full payment is required 7 Days before Pick Up date.
  • All cancellations will receive a full travel credit, valid for 24 months.
  • Travel credit can be used for any future booking.

No-Show Policy

If the vehicle is not collected within 24 hours of the scheduled pick-up time without prior notice, the booking will be considered a no-show and the full rental amount will be charged.
